HINKE SCHREUDERS In her work Hinke Schreuders (The Netherlands, 1969) uses the traditional technique of needlework and embroidery to create contemporary images. Using photos from fifties women's magazines, modern porn websites and her personal archive as a starting point, she depicts female icons: from the housewife to the prostitute, and from the fairytale figure to the porn actress. Taking these archetypal roles out of context and adding new layers, she tries to lay bare their ambivalence and overlaps. In the Sugar and Spice show Hinke Schreuders presents an installation of felt objects inspired by the fairytale of Little Red Riding Hood, transforming this ancient story of morality, guilt and innocence into her own spicey version.
