ARAM TANIS Dutch artist Aram Tanis wants to confront the viewer with the banality of life that everybody recognizes. He aims to show the things that people assume are filthy, abnormal or disturbed, but which are actually all just the usual, normal kind of things. Text written in Dutch by Dominic van den Boogerd: 'Tanis makes photos about the small, painful things in life; a desolate Christmas, a lonely masturbation, a joke that nobody laughs at.All these images stand for something bigger; a universal, shared desire for real beauty and authenticity which will never be fulfilled and explains why we are happy to accept appearances and substitutes. This unfulfilled territory is what Tanis works with. His photographs show the truth that people don't want to know about themselves and often reprove.'
